A little about me...

...so I updated my "about" page this weekend and since I know I have a lot of new followers I thought I'd send this out as a post.

--

Hey everyone, I'm Mallorie, a musician's wife who writes about our crazy life and our adventures at home and on the road. If you're new here (and even if your not), pretty please make sure to say hi! I love reading all of your comments and make sure to respond to each and every one...

A little about me // Home is with You

...I love photography so there will be lots of pictures and I love to bake so you will find lots of recipes too. I try to make sure all of the recipes I post are healthy, easy, cheap, and delicious...because that's what we eat around here. Every once in awhile an extra sinful dessert pops up, but even then I try to swap a few ingredients to make it as healthy as possible.

If you'd like to read about Dave and I's "story" on how we met, my posts on our wedding, and all that fun stuff go here. I also run a shop with handmade pretties (like headbands and accessories) and prints of my pictures here.

Other places you can find me:

...thanks for stopping by! :)

Like I said, I adore all of your comments and look forward to getting to know you all better! Don't be shy!

April Sponsor Intro!

Happy Friday! Tonight Dave is playing at an event for Relay for Life here in Austin, should be fun. Today I have for you some wonderful ladies that you will surely love...

Photobucket

Hi lovely Home is With You readers! I'm Mandy, I blog over at Fireflies & Cattails. I also have an etsy shop where you can find handmade clutches, headbands, etc. made by me. I started blogging a couple years ago to share my crafting adventures, my faith, and everyday life after being inspired by lots of other wonderfully talented women who do the same thing. I love being a part of the handmade community!

Photobucket

Hello lovelies!

I'm Ana and I blog over at A+M. My blog is all about our new-ish married life and everything that is involved in that, from our trips to the recipes we try. I decided to start writing down our story soon after we got married, to document the beginning of our life as husband and wife. One day, our kids are going to thank me (right?!) and we'll be able to look back at our memories. I'm thrilled to share our adventures with you! I hope you stop by to say hello!

Photobucket

Literally, one day we said to each other "Let's start a blog... about everything." And that is pretty much how it started. We are two sisters (in law) coming together to share our love for food, fashion, life, design and anything else we feel like rambling about. So whatever it was that brought you to our blog, we hope you stay! ~Whitney & Nicole

...ok, go show all of these ladies some lovin' on this beautiful Friday :) And if you're interested in being a sponsor for May go here for all the info! I'd love to have you! Have a great weekend...

Oh how the tables turn...

When Dave and I met I was still in Lawrence going to KU, actually it was finals week and I took a 3 hour study break to talk to him...oops. But now Dave is the one taking classes...

Studying // Home is with You
Studying // Home is with You

...but that doesn't mean I'm not learning. In fact, I'm probably learning more now than I did in college. I spend every chance I can reading every book and article I can get my hands on about photography- among other things.

Last night Dave and I had a little impromptu "study session" in the living room. He was reading one of his religious studies books while I took notes about portrait sessions. It was perfect. I have to say I don't miss finals and end of the semester papers, but I am so proud of Dave for pursuing his degree.

We should never stop learning though, whether we have tests to study for or not. It's always important to continue growing and learning- no matter what age we are.

Speaking of things that make me happy- my shop is now at the top of Storenvy's front page! So happy to see it there this afternoon :) Go check it out...

...and while you're there if you wouldn't mind following my shop, I'd really appreciate it. I'm really praying that my shop being on the front page like that will bring some new customers my way, that would be a huge blessing :)

Hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday as well!

Unexpected Perspective.

The other day I went on my first run in awhile. I injured my ankle while we were moving into our new place here in Austin and I ran on it a few times after the injury, but soon realized I needed to give it a break. I finally couldn't wait any longer and decided to go for a run late last week.

Unexpected Perspective // Home is with You

It felt strange as I picked up my pace from a walk to a run. I felt like I was doing it wrong, which is silly, because how could I go wrong? After a bit I got my stride back and it felt great. I was amazed at how exciting it was to get my groove back and zone out to the songs I had on my iPhone. That is, until a song from She and Him's Christmas album came on...I really need to update my playlist.

Unexpected Perspective // Home is with You

I ran until I didn't think I could anymore. As I slowed to a walk it all hit me- my knees ached, my ankle throbbed, and my left shin had shooting pains. Just as I was starting to get down on myself of how I was falling apart at the ripe old age of 26, I came across the sweetest old man...

Unexpected Perspective // Home is with You

He had one leg and was operating a motorized wheelchair with a couple of groceries on his lap. I could tell he was a veteran because of his hat and he looked somewhere between 88-90 some years old...and he was smiling ear to ear. The man didn't have a care in the world as he waved and said hi to each person that passed him by, including me.

Unexpected Perspective // Home is with You

Tears filled my eyes once I passed the man and I thought, "What is wrong with me?". That man had plenty to be down on himself about and yet, he was just happy to be alive. Suddenly I felt thankful to have two legs that worked and the ability to run at all. I picked up my pace again and continued to run all the way home.

Unexpected Perspective // Home is with You

The reality is, we're all just lucky to be here and I don't want to take another day for granted...

Our favorite Netflix shows.

Dave and I don't have cable so we watch our regular shows on Hulu and we enjoy finding fun shows to watch on Netflix. Usually when we find a new show to watch on Netflix we'll watch it all the way through, so you know we only watch shows we REALLY like.

We've been doing this for awhile so I thought I'd make you all a list of our all time favorite Netflix finds! These are all shows that we'd never seen before and (for the most part) didn't even know existed until we stumbled upon them on Netflix...

Mad Men- This is what we're currently watching and we can't get enough! We actually watched a bit of an episode a few months ago and couldn't finish it, but we tried it again recently and now we see what all the fuss is about. It just took an episode or two to get going.

PS~ Is it alright with you all if Dave and I start dressing like Don and Betty Draper?

Our favorite Netflix shows // Home is with You

Breaking Bad- Warning: this show is highly addictive. This was another show that we weren't sure about at first, but once we gave it a second chance...wow, so glad we did. So much happens every single episode that leaves you on the edge of your seat anxious to know what happens next. Plus, the videography on this show is incredible. We can't wait for the next season to start!

Our favorite Netflix shows // Home is with You

Arrested Development- This show is so funny and I can't believe Dave and I had never seen it until we found it on Netflix a few years ago! It's definitely a special brand of humor, but it was right up our alley. Plus, I hear that they're in talks of making a movie, so you'll want to get caught up before they do.

Our favorite Netflix shows // Home is with You

The Riches- We fell in love with this comedy/drama about a family of drifters. We were sad to find out that they didn't get to wrap things up like they wanted to when they didn't get a third season, but definitely worth watching anyways.

Our favorite Netflix shows // Home is with You

Pushing Daises- I just found out that this show isn't on instant anymore, but this was our favorite by far! We were so sad that the show got cut short when it aired and didn't have more seasons...a tragedy I tell you. So if you find somewhere else to watch this show, do it! We're still trying to find a show with the same kind of quirky characters that we so dearly loved and the stunning visuals.

If you know of any that might be similar, please let us know!

Our favorite Netflix shows // Home is with You
VIA

Ok, so that should keep you all plenty busy! Let me know if you try any of these and what you think! Also, if there's one that's not on the list that I need to check out, let me know!

Introducing Libby of "Libby's Life"

Today I have the pleasure of introducing you all to Libby who blogs over at "Libby's Life: it's all about the boys". Make sure to go say hi and show her some love after you get to know her a little bit better here...

Introducing Libby of "Libby's Life"

1. What is your favorite thing to blog about?

My son is the thing I blog about the most but I have failed miserably lately, but it's because of being pregnant and sick. I need to get back to blogging about him and document him growing again. But now that I am pregnant I am really looking forward to blogging my pregnancy too!

2. I saw that you're currently obsessed with Harry Potter! As a fellow Potter lover I have to ask, which is your favorite?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows was definitely my favorite. I loved that book... but I have to say they were all so good.

Introducing Libby of "Libby's Life"

3. I know you hoped and prayed for baby #2 and now you're pregnant, congrats! Any tips for anyone expecting or hoping to be someday?

I do have one piece of advice for those who are trying. Don't give up, don't get discouraged. It'll happen on it's own time and if it doesn't there are ways of having kids. Adopting is always an option... I was adopted so I greatly believe that it is just as amazing as having your own children. I wouldn't trade my family for anything!! We are planning on adopting ourselves someday too. And for those mom's who are expecting for the first time congrats first and foremost!, but secondly enjoy every.single.second of your pregnancy even the days where you feel horrible and when that little baby comes DO NOT wish their life away enjoy that little baby & cuddle cuddle cuddle them as much as possible because boy do they grow fast and then they do not want you to hold them at all {except for when they're sick} and you wish for that little baby to hold again.

...as a fellow adopted child I have to say I agree!
Adoption is a great option and that's wonderful that
you guys are wanting to do that in the future :)

Ok guys, now go say hi! Happy Friday and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)

Sea Salted Mud Brownies.

I've been craving chocolate lately something fierce lately and the leftover Easter candy just hasn't been cutting it. I really needed wanted something gooey. And no, I'm not pregnant, because I know at least one person will ask...I just like chocolate, mmmkay?

Enter these amazing brownies. They definitely got the job done. But full disclaimer, in case anyone was wondering, these aren't my usual healthy recipe. While I have modified it in any way that I can, they're still brownies...just thought I'd toss that out there...

Sea Salted Mud Brownies by Home is with You

The original recipe is here, and here's how I did it...

1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
1/4 c chocolate chips (I used Ghirardelli)
1/4 c plus 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 c cane sugar
1 1/2 bananas (melted from freezer or whipped)
1 c whole wheat flour
1 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350. Put the chocolate and butter in a bowl and melt in the microwave (30 seconds, stir, 30 more seconds). Whip together.

Sea Salted Mud Brownies.

Add in cocoa powder and sugar and stir well. Add the bananas and mix very well, mashing any banana clumps. Add in flour and mix well again.

Sea Salted Mud Brownies.

Add in the vanilla and half of the sea salt and finish mixing everything together. Scoop out the mixture into a greased pan and smooth it out. Sprinkle the other half of your sea salt on top.

Photobucket

Bake for about 35 minutes and leave out to cool. Then place the brownies in the fridge until they are completely set.

Sea Salted Mud Brownies by Home is with You

Enjoy! I called these "Sea Salted Mud Brownies" because they really are thick as mud. So make these when you want some extra fudgey brownies with a sea salt kick.

The perfect light.

There is a place by our apartments that Dave and I ran recently and you all might remember that I talked about going back with my camera, well I finally did! I decided yesterday morning that I was going to walk over there before sunset and take some pictures, but of course pesky life got in the way and Dave and I ate later than expected...by the time we were done with dinner it was the perfect lighting out...

Oh what we photographers/wanna-be-photographers would do for the perfect light...just about anything. So instead of walking over there (like I had planned) I told Dave to grab the keys because I needed to go NOW. Luckily I have a wonderful husband who understands my breed of crazy so he did what I said and we ran out the door...

He parked when we found a good spot and I sprinted across the street (kids- don't try this at home). As soon as I set foot on the grass at the other side I realized...the field of flowers that I wanted to photograph was surrounded by thorn bushes...and I was in sandals and shorts. Oops. But, what's a little suffering for your art, right? Right...

...totally worth it. And there are plenty more where those came from, I'm sure you'll see them around here eventually ;)

Online performance!

You all might remember me talking about Dave doing an online performance a few weeks ago...well, it went so well he's going to do another! The last one was so much fun and this one will be even better now that we've figured the site out. Tickets are only .50c (or more if you're willing to give more) and there are 25 available- so get on it! You can buy a ticket here.

Online performance // Home is with You

I love these shows because as much as I love Dave's album (and trust me when I say I love it, I've heard it thousands of times and still can't get enough), my favorite is when he performs live. And I think many others who have seen him live would agree. And while the online show is a bit different, more intimate feel than a typical live show- I think that's pretty cool :) Plus, it gives those of you not in our area a chance to see Dave perform.

Online performance // Home is with You

The other thing I love about these shows is that there is a chat section next to the video. That way you all can request your favorite songs, ask Dave and I questions, and interact with each other. It was a lot of fun last time!

So go grab a spot now! Also, make sure to check out Story of my Life today for a big giveaway from Dave! You don't want to miss it.

Life Lately via Instagram.

Afternoon friends, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying a lazy Sunday today :) It's cloudy and supposed to thunderstorm here today so I'm sipping some black tea and getting things done around the apartment.

These are my pics from my iphone this week, there are more on Instagram and I'd love it if you all followed along! Username mallorieowens :)

Life Lately via Instagram // Home is with You

Monday Dave and I did the usual open jam at B. D. Riley's. I wore a teal sundress and he rocked the house.

Life Lately via Instagram // Home is with You

Tuesday he had another show at JO's coffee shop on St. Edwards' campus. It was such a gorgeous evening out that night!

Life Lately via Instagram // Home is with You

I actually got to bed before midnight one night this week. It felt fabulous. Oh and a few people commented that I was rocking the Katniss braid? Maybe so, but I've been wearing my hair like this waaaay before there was a Katniss...plus I'm not even sure what a Katniss braid is. Please don't kill me.

The fridge was getting a little bare so I improvised. No bread for my boca burger and no veggie dog for my hotdog bun, so what's a girl to do? Cut up the boca burger and enjoy...it was delicious, although extremely messy.

Life Lately via Instagram // Home is with You

So simple yet so delicious. Rasberry jam and homemade peanut butter on German Rye bread.

Dawgs. Veggie style.

I now offer giftcards to the shop! You pick how much you'd like on the card and I mail it to you or a special recipient :)

Husband knows how to deliver. I was craving a frozen drink and he made me this pretty pink concoction!

Enjoying the rainy day today...black tea, dark clouds, and folding. Like a boss.
